The Lag Switch

September 21, 2010

Yes, yes, yes; a very noobish thing indeed. Keep in mind the only reason I published this article was simple because I like to document every thing I build. To be very honest I never even used it (besides testing), and even that was limited use. Anyways point is I no longer have it, sold it for a tidy sum ;). so what made it a lag switch anyways? Well I'll tell you...

It all starts with the Internet cord or Cat5e cable. In this cable there are about eight or so wires, one of them is orange. This orange wire is a data wire, it takes some of the data packets that are normally delivered to a server some where else on the globe. Now by stopping the flow of packets across this wire lags the transmission, essentially causing the server to have a brain fart. When used in online gaming, things really slow down or even stop, can you see where this is going? People who use them in an online match are normally not effected by the lag so they go around killing all the stopped or slowed players; and the other players can do nothing to stop it.

To make a lag switch is very simple, open the Cat5e cord, find the orange wire, install a toggle switch, and voila you are done! Why a toggle switch? simple! the data needs to flow constantly along the orange wire for normal game play, so you must leave it in the "ON" position all the time; however when you want to lag simply switch it off. The data packets are stopped, the server freezes, everyone else stops, and you very cheaply kill who ever you please.

Personally I am not a fan of lag switches. People who uses them essentially have no skill and would rather ruin the game for every one else simply for their own pleasure. Overall the lag switch is really just great for making a couple bills, just complete it, test it, and happily sell it to some poor cheap gamer who will most likely get banned for using one.

The Automatic Xbox cooling System

September 21, 2010

The Automatic Xbox cooling system or AXCS as I call it, all started when I noticed my Xbox looked dull and felt hot in its cabinet. Also I made note of the fact I couldn't keep the door closed while it ran because it would simply over heat and crash like so many other 360's. So with my soldering in in one hand and a pen in the other I set to work designing the perfect addition to the cabinet.  At first it seemed like all I would need is a fan; however I wanted to spice up the Xbox's i...

The Light Theremin

September 20, 2010

Like all of my projects this one was discovered accidentally. Truth be told I was actually trying to build an annoying noise maker at the time! The first time I connected some random resistors to the 555 noise maker circuit I knew I was on to something...so later that week I tried variable tuning resistors, but although I got some sound out of them, they were difficult and tricky to work with, never mind telling all of you how to find the exact same ones I used! Then i realized there was...
